QUESTIONS;

Q: At what age is it appropriate to weight train?

Research shows that children can begin at age eight. However, I recommend children start at age 11 or older. The most important aspect is proper technic and adult supervision.

Q: Should you or your child take sport supplements?

I do not recommend taking sports supplements of any kind. Up to one third of supplements contain impurities such as caffeine and ephedra. If you do take supplements. Please take one at a time to modify side effects.

Q: When is it safe to return to sports after a concussion?

There is no direct answer. However, an athlete should be symptom free for at least one week ( no headache, no nausea, no concentration problems).  This applies to a simple concussion. In a complicated concussion ( memory loss, amnesia, memory loss, or persistent headache), the athlete must be symptom free for 2-3 weeks.

Q: What is the best aerobic workout?

In terms of calorie burning, running will burn the most calories. Some people prefer biking, elliptical, or swimming. Therefore, a combination of these activities would be best for fitness and injury prevention.

Q: How do you know when to return to sports after an ankle or knee injury?

The athlete should have full range of motion, and 90% strength. The athlete should practice for a week without pain or discomfort, and then progress to full competition.
